No Cost of Living Adjustment for 2011

The Social Security Administration has confirmed that, for the second year in a row, there will be no cost-of-living adjustment for Social Security Disability (SSD) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) beneficiaries in 2011.  The Social Security Act provides for an automatic increase in SSD and SSI benefits if there is an increase in the Consumer Price Index for Urban Wage Earners and Clerical Workers for the third quarter of the last year that a cost of living adjustment was determined as compared to the third quarter of the current year.  The last cost of living adjustment was in 2008.  There has not been a change in the consumer price index for the third quarter of 2008 and the third quarter of 2010; thus, there will not be a cost of living adjustment.
